Many thanks to Ronald Ogawa for his help in figuring this out and testing e-mail transmissions.

So far, the only way we’ve discovered to get the Unicode characters into the e-mail message is to copy & paste from an application (like a web browser or Unicode editor) which supports display of Unicode material.

Bjondi’s Character Agent provides a method of doing this, just like the Character Map Windows feature, except Bjondi’s Character Agent works with Unicode fonts.

Bjondi is back on-line after a brief absence. Their website is at http://www.bjondi.com/ . This fine product is freeware and available for download.
